Boxing Training

What is Boxing Training?

Boxing training is a great all-over body workout which is perfect for those who want an intense and exciting workout that can fit into a busy lifestyle and is also a good stress-buster. Popular classes such as Boxercise and Les Mills’ Body Attack take many of their exercises from boxing training.

Boxing training consists typically of a warm-up, such as a run-around the block or skipping, circuit training and a cool-down. The circuit training itself consists foremost of learning the basic punches like the jabs, crosses, hooks and uppercuts that are essential to boxing. You mostly work with a partner in going through all the different stations. These stations include shadow boxing, skipping, practicing jabs at punch-bags of varying weights and co-ordinated punches against hand-pads. It also consists of floor exercises such as press-ups, sit-ups and leg lifts usually done in a group and using such equipment as medicine balls. Sessions usually last for around 90 minutes.

What are the benefits?
The benefits of boxing training include improved muscle tone especially in the upper body area, improved physical stamina, improved hand-eye co-ordination and reflex; increased metabolism and rate of calorie-burn and improved focus and alertness. It also challenges both aerobic and anaerobic systems, improves posture and balance and is a good cardio workout for heart and lungs.

Who is it good for?
Boxing training is suitable for everyone, male or female, young or old as the focus is on building up fitness and mental agility with no actual combat involved.
